Anti-infammatory and antioxidant activities of acteoside isolated from Acanthus ilicifolius var. xiamenensis

Abstract Acanthus ilicifolius var. xiamenensis (Acanthaceae), a mangrove found in southeastern China, is an herb with strong antiinflammatory property. Phytochemical study of the showed that plant has high content phenylethanol glycoside acteoside (AC). In this research, anti-inflammatory activity on dextran sodium sulphate (DSS)-mediated mouse ulcerative colitis model were studied. For DSS- mediated mice, AC can reduce weight loss and DAI score UC suppress colon shortening alleviate pathological injury. Moreover, treatment notably up-regulates IL-10, down-regulates levels IL-1 β TNF- α , inhibits protein expression JAK2/STAT3, NF- κ B p65, IKK α/β IKB colon. addition, after treatment, level MDA NO colonic tissue remarkably decreased, while GSH, SOD, Nrf2 HO-1 significantly increased. These results indicate activate signaling pathway by inhibiting JAK/STAT, iNOS/eNOS cascades, enhance intestinal barrier function, effectively DSS-induced mice.
